How Google was created

How Google was created

Google is a company which develops Intenet services, based in California, United States. Its first service was google search, today the most used search site in the world, created from a doctorate project of the then graduate students Larry Page and Sergey Brin at Stanford University in 1996.
This project, called Backrub, arose due to the frustration of its creators with search Websites at the time and aimed to build amore advanced, faster and higher connection quality search engine. Brin and Page achieved their objective and also presented a system with great relevance to the responses and an extremely simple environment. One of the proposals of the founders of Google was to have a discreet and well-directed publicity for the user to spend the shortest time possible, without distractions.

Although Google only celebrates their birthday "when they feel like eating cake", the celebration is official almost always on september 7th, date of the registration of the domain Google.com. With this, some images of the company's past are already popping pup on the internet, check it our:

Acquired about two years ago, the garage where Google was born is today a touristic attraction kept by the company. Although the price hasn't been released, the garage was owned by Susan Wojcicki, Google's Vice President of Product Management. The house can be seen on Google Maps.

It's possible to see in the photo the founders, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, and beside them, Marissa Mayer, Vice-President of Search Products & User Experience.

The first server you never forget. Not even Google. With a cabinet made of Legos, Google's supercomputer counted on ten 4-gigabyte hard drive, in other words, a total of 40 gigabytes of storage. At the time, something spectacular and expensive.
After moving to Mountain View, Google already operated 5000 PCs.

Today, Google provides dozens of other online services, mos of them free, incluiding e-mail, editing, document and spreadsheet sharing, site analysis, social network, instant communication, translation, photo sharing, and other services; like specialized search tools, which includes, along with others, news, images, videos, and academic articles.
Big part of Google's income comes from the Google service AdSense, which is for online publicity, through sponsored links.
In 2008 the company released its smartphone platform, Android. One year later it introduced the first version of it's operating systembased on web Chrome OS.

Choosing the name

The name Google was chosen due to the expression googol, which represents the number 1 followed by 100 zeroes, to demontrate the immensity of the Web.
The expression googol arose form a rather curious fact. The mathematician Edward Kasner questioned his 8-year-old nephew about the way he should write a big number - a really big number: the biggest number he could imagine. The little Milton Sirotta emitted a sound to answer which Kasner translated as "googol". Later, Kasner defined and even bigger number: the googolplex.
According to the Biography Channel's documentary about the founders of Google, when the first company investor passed over a 100 thousand-dollar check, he asked in what name should he write. Brin and Page said they were thinking of giving the name "Googol" to the company, but the businessman, probably by ignorance, wrote "Google", so forcing the company to have this name.
